Relevant curriculum

ANNOUNCEMENT: DfE has reduced the SKE budget for the remainder of this academic year (2023-24).  We can no longer accept applications for French and Spanish.  We only have spaces available for German SKE.

On this course you will have the opportunity to increase your confidence and develop your skills in:

• Listening: understand and respond to language that is clearly articulated and spoken at a normal speed.
• Speaking: communicate and interact in speech, express thoughts and ideas fluently and spontaneously.
• Reading: understand and respond to written language with accuracy, identify the overall message, key points, details and opinions.
• Writing: communicate in writing with a variety of vocabulary and grammatical structures. 

Students engage with the online training platform where they complete various activities to develop their linguistic and communication skills that are completely tailored to their requirements. We use either Rosetta Stone Catalyst; Foundation pathway or Babbel on the course, which both use immersive technology. Rosetta Stone boasts unlimited group tuition and Babbel offers a generous number of one to one tutorials. Rosetta Stone Catalyst; Fluency Builder is used for the more experienced learner, where they can explore their language of choice through tailored activities, engaging videos and much more!

In addition to our 3rd party software, students undertake other reflective work, Skype calls with our own native speakers and receive online one-to-one tuition with their subject tutor in order to consolidate their fluency in the target language, often in the context of how they might teach it. Our subject tutors are practising MFL teachers in UK schools.
